Carling Technologies G-Series Hydraulic Magnetic Circuit Breaker

Carling Technologies is pleased to announce the release of the new G-series, hydraulic magnetic circuit breaker. This product is designed for use in DIN rail applications, and is suitable for domestic and international use as it meets IEC spacing requirements (TUV/CCC approvals pending) and has UL 1077 and CSA agency approvals. The G-series is rated up to 63 Amps, has a conventional 17.5 mm form/fit DIN rail breaker housing and is available in 1 to 4 poles

Features:
  • Optional integrated auxiliary switch embedded within the breaker. The optional auxiliary switch does not require a separate housing, or pole. As a result, the G-series takes up less panel space than the other brands.
  • Utilizes hydraulic/magnetic technology, which provides precise circuit protection operation and performance even when exposed to extremely hot and/or cold application environments. Many other DIN rail breakers utilize a thermal bimetal element requiring a de-rating factor to prevent nuisance tripping in hot environments, or a potentially destructive long delay in cold environments.

Pepperl+Fuchs GLV18 Photoelectric Sensors with Background Suppression

Pepperl+Fuchs GLV18 Series photoelectric sensors are now available in Background Suppression models. Background suppression models feature a mechanically adjustable sensing range cut-off that enables precise detection of all colors at distances up to 120 mm. Black and white test objects are seen to within 6% of the same distance, as opposed to a standard diffuse mode sensor in which sensing ranges for black and white test objects can vary by around 80%. They come in an industry-standard M18 threaded cylindrical housing that is up to 50% shorter and with up to 50% lower power consumption than many competitive models. These sensors carry the CE mark, and are UL/cUL Listed.

“The primary benefit of background suppression models is their ability to ignore objects that appear beyond the object to be detected. For example, a background suppression sensor can detect corrugated cardstock to be printed without detecting the machine panel below the cardstock. This means more precise and reliable sensing without the need for a reflector, or the need to frequently re-adjust a sensors’ sensitivity,” says Jeff Allison, Product Manager. “Background suppression also has very low color sensitivity, meaning an object with changing print, color, or reflectivity is detected at a very consistent distance without the need for re-adjustment or re-positioning.”

Every GLV18 sensor includes a flush-mount bracket that allows for a simple, tool-less, unobtrusive means of mounting the sensor on a conveyor. Ball-and-swivel and half-clamp mounting brackets are also available to facilitate precise positioning of GLV18 sensors. GLV18 models are also physically much shorter than competitive versions, meaning they are more likely to fit into space-critical equipment or installations.

“When mounted through the sidewall of a conveyor, for example, the GLV18 protrudes less than other M18 cylindrical sensors, so conveyors or equipment can be placed closer together and ultimately consume less space,” explains Allison.

GLV18 sensors consume up to 50% less current than other M18 cylindrical photoelectric sensors, so it costs less to operate each sensor. Lower power consumption enables each power supply to power more sensors, so fewer power supplies may be needed. In fact for long conveyor runs, GLV18 users can potentially cut the number of required power supplies in half.

Status LEDs are highly visible and placed in dual positions, 180 degrees apart on the housing, for increased visibility.

The series is ideally suited for use in material handling applications, primarily as a conveyor sensor for the reliable reflector-less detection of cartons, totes, or cases through the side-wall of a conveyor. They are also well suited for use in packaging applications including, among others, web break detection and carton magazine low-level detection. The GLV18 is a very reliable general purpose sensor that can also be used in a number of other markets, including printing/paper and automotive.
