Pepperl+Fuchs UB60 Ultrasonic Height and Thickness Sensor

The new UB60-12GM-U-V1-Y204917 is designed specifically for applications requiring measurement of small objects on a conveyor or table. This sensor requires no external programming or teaching. With a reference distance of 50 or 60mm the sensor can measure a target up to 30mm tall. Applications such as box height detection, package thickness measurement and others can be solved with this sensor.

The sensor works by measuring the time it takes to send and receive a burst of sound from the reference target (typically a conveyor). It automatically sets its voltage output to 0V for this reference target. Any target that comes closer to the sensor is immediately detected and the analog output is adjusted accordingly. At its rated reference distance of 60mm the sensor has only a 20mm wide beam, making it useful for detecting very small objects (10mm by 10mm square is minimum recommended).

The small 12mm diameter housing allows this sensor to be easily mounted in just about any application. Standard 4-pin M12 connection simplifies wiring and gives several options for mating cordsets.

Features Include:
  • Automatic programming
  • High resolution of 0.17mm
  • Fast response time of 12ms
  • Analog voltage output – 0 to 10V
  • Extremely narrow sound cone
  • Dynamic distance and temperature compensation

New Products from Tyco Electronics

SNR Slim Interface Plug-In Relay

Tyco Electronics introduces a new version of the SNR series slim interface relay which meets customer requirements for a more robust version suitable for panel plug-in applications in control cabinets. The SNR plug-in relay is compatible with the existing plug-in socket, which simplifies exchanging the relays in installed systems during maintenance processes.

Its compatibility with existing sockets allows users to avoid the time consuming re-wiring of existing panel boards and helps users minimize inventory costs as they do not need to stock several types of relays or sockets.

Single-pole contacts in either a changeover (CO) or normally-open (NO) arrangement are rated 6 A at a maximum ambient temperature of 85°C. This relay benefits from a narrow width of 5.0 mm permitting high packing density in applications. It has reinforced insulation with 6 / 8 mm coil-to-contact clearance/creepage distances for 4 kV dielectric strength.

Modular Barrier Strips Allow Interlocking Expansion
New modular barrier strips from Tyco Electronics feature dovetail interlocking to allow users to create different size strips while only stocking two part numbers. The barrier strips are available in two and three positions that can be interlocked to build blocks up to 16 positions without losing the 0.235-inch centerline spacing. The dual-barrier design allows access for wire from two sides to provide more flexible wiring options than tri-barrier designs.

Modularity allows customers to simplify procurement and inventory while maintaining flexibility in having different sizes of barrier blocks for signal and power wiring, says Russ Dzielak, product manager. Applications such as HVAC controls, security and alarms, and industrial controls will benefit from the modularity. Two modular strips allow users to build any size strip from two to 16 positions.

The UL recognized strips are rated for 15 amps and 300 volts. The thermoplastic housings carry a UL 94V-0 flammability rating. The single-row strips are through-hole solders and offer standoffs that allow flux and solvents to drain during cleaning.

New Products from Harting

Han 7 D and 8 D Connectors with Quick Lock Termination Technology
The compact Han® 7 D and Han® 8 D connectors are now available with new termination technology. The precise, compact and straightforward Han-Quick Lock® technology from HARTING is ideal for high contact densities, placing it on equal footing with the crimp termination technology that has been long established on the markets.

The easy handling and space-saving design results in a combination of both cage-clamp and crimping technology reliability. There is no other termination technology that is this simple, space-saving and rapid to handle.

A normal screwdriver is all that is needed for assembly. The terminal cross-section per contact ranges from 0.34 to 1.5 mm2 (AWG 22 – 16). A working life of more than 500 mating cycles is no problem for vibration-proof terminations. The materials used are especially high quality: the Han-Quick Lock® spring has a stainless steel spring, copper alloy contacts with a silver surface and a polycarbonate insert.

The Han® 7 D and Han® 8 D with Han-Quick Lock® are used in control, signal, and measurement technology.

Compact Han 3A Plastic Housing
The latest Han® 3 A plastic housing with integrated cable clamp follows the general trend toward miniaturization. The new length, 25% shorter than the standard version, opens up completely new possibilities for the user. Combinable with many existing contact inserts in the Han® 3 A size, this connector series has a decisively expanded range of applications.

With the integrated cable clamp, which is designed for cable diameters from 9 to 17 mm, this housing – executed in premium plastic - covers a broad spectrum. Like all components in the Han® 3 A housing series, the new housing also offers IP 65/67 protection. In addition to the purely technical advantages, users benefit from another decisive feature: as the housing and cable clamp are packaged together, both administrative and logistic costs are reduced.

Han 3 HPR High Profile Hood
The Han® HPR series is primarily used in electrical connections in vehicles, as well as in applications with harsh climatic conditions or wet areas, or where sensitive connections require protection or shielding.

With the new high profile Han® 3 HPR hood version now it is possible to mount the Han® Quintax contact insert into a Han® 3 HPR hood. It also offers more wiring space for simplified assembly of the various contact inserts.

The high-profile Han® 3 HPR hood is equipped with an M25 thread for the cable glands, which allows the use of cables with larger outer diameters. All other technical details of the new hood correspond to those of the previous Han® 3 HPR hood. The high-profile Han® 3 HPR hood is also 100% plug compatible with the Han® 3 HPR bulkhead-mounted and surface-mounted housings.

Turck QL25 Cylinder Position Sensors

TURCK introduces the Q25L sensor, a magnetically actuated linear displacement sensor
available with measuring ranges of 100, 125, 160 and 200 mm. The Q25L sensor is well-suited for applications that require precise signal transmission over long measuring distances, such as pneumatic pumps, slides, blanking or molding systems. By utilizing an external magnet as a position indicator, the sensor may be used in even more applications, such as moving platforms, point line measurement or other specially designed equipment where a cylinder is not present.

Like TURCK’s other cylinder position sensors, the Q25L detects the position of a piston on standard pneumatic cylinders by utilizing a series of Hall elements that sense the piston magnet and send a signal back to the processor. The Q25L line has a repeat accuracy of less than 0.1 percent of the measuring range and a linear deviation of less than 1 percent of the full scale. It also features a blind zone of only 20.5 mm on each end, making it easy-to-apply in
space restricted areas.

Pepperl+Fuchs X-Series Pile Driver Extended Range Inductive Sensors

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces X-Series Pile Driver™ Extended Range Inductive Sensors. These robust sensors are available in 12mm, 18mm and 30mm diameters to deliver sensing ranges of 5mm, 10mm or 15mm – up to 2.5 times longer range than traditional inductive sensors. 100% stainless steel housings deliver durability more than 20 times that of the competition’s brass and plastic housings. Black Armor™ coated weld-immune models are also available.

“In the most demanding application environments it’s good to withstand a punishing target impact, but reducing or altogether avoiding impacts is obviously better, and this has led to the popularity of many of today’s ‘extended range’ sensors,” says Marcel Ulrich, Product Manager. “But until now sensor users have been faced with choosing between sensing distance or sensor durability. The X-Series Pile Driver changes that by delivering both industry-leading durability and sensing range.”

X-Series Pile Driver’s extended sensing field is a big benefit in automotive manufacturing applications, as it enables reliable detection of irregularly shaped contours, and increased sensor-to-target distances help eliminate contact-related scuffing of “Class A” hood, door and trunk surfaces. Weld-immune models are uniquely capable of providing long range part detection with full immunity to both AC and DC weld fields, and repelling weld splatter.

“X-Series Pile Driver’s have an up-front cost that is only 35-40% higher than a traditional plastic-faced sensor. So if a sensing application averages even one contact-related failure per year, the X-Series Pile Driver will more than pay for itself in reduced sensor replacement costs and inventory, and increased machine uptime and throughput,” says Ulrich.

X-Series Pile Driver’s can detect all metals. Advanced circuitry enables restriction-free mounting while delivering the highest available immunity to the effects of industrial noise and temperature extremes. Unlike traditional inductive sensors that are limited to IP67/68 protection, X-Series Pile Driver sensors are IP69k-rated to withstand high pressure washdown cleaning.
