Littelfuse HMOV Varistors

The HMOV™ Varistor Series from Littelfuse can operate at ambient temperatures up to 125°C with 2500V isolation voltage, an advance made possible through the use of a new silicone coating technology. Competitive epoxy-coated varistor designs are typically limited to maximum temperatures of just 85°C while similar phenolic coating designs have limited isolation voltages. This high operating temperature makes it possible to reduce end-product production costs by eliminating the need for an additional heat sink or potting process. The combination of high operating temperature, high surge current absorption of up to 10kA (8/20µs), reliability confirmed by a 1000-cycle thermal shock test, and high (2500V) isolation voltage make it the highest performance radial-leaded varistor currently on the market.

Applications include industrial automation controls, solar power inverters, security systems, fire alarm and smoke detectors, smart meters, LED lighting base transceiver station (BTS) power supplies, and harsh environment/outdoor power supplies.

FEATURES
  • High operating temperature of 125°C
  • High isolation voltage of 2500V
  • Thermal shock tested from -55°C to +125°C, 1000 cycles
  • Meets UL 1449 and IEC 60950-1
  • Eliminates the need for an additional heat sink or potting process used to dissipate heat
  • Ideally suited for use in higher ambient temperature applications
  • Eliminates the need for the additional insulation material
  • Minimize PCB size by reducing space required between the varistor and other components
  • Offers enhanced reliability that can extend the lifetime of the end product
  • Enables end product worldwide compliance

Littelfuse 777 Series Axial Lead Fuses

Littelfuse, Inc., the global leader in circuit protection, has introduced the compact 777 Series Fuse to provide protection for higher-wattage wall-mount chargers for battery-powered electronic equipment. Although chargers for earlier generations of mobile phones had relatively low wattage (typically about 5W), today’s highly compact chargers must often be able to handle 10-15W of power, which requires withstanding higher levels of current. The axial lead, 3.6mm x 9mm 777 Series Fuse incorporates an innovative type of filler material that provides a finely tuned balance between the surge tolerance necessary to prevent nuisance fuse tripping with the fuse’s ability to open safely when a short-circuit occurs. The 777 Series’ robust design lets it withstand up to 24 hits of 7.5kV ringwave surge; it will open safely on a direct short condition without producing soot, sparks, and sounds. Typical applications include wall-mount smartphone and tablet chargers and 10‑20W power supply modules for other battery-powered consumer electronics.

“From the consumer perspective, everybody wants their mobile electronic devices to recharge quickly, so they can get back to using them in the way they were intended. The 777 Series Fuse allows circuit designers to engineer fast, compact, and economical chargers that don’t compromise user safety,” said Daniel Wang, product manager for the 777 Series Fuse line. “Circuit designers can count on Littelfuse for robust fuse design and superior manufacturing quality.”

FEATURES

  • Its high interrupting rating design ensures the fuse will open safely under short-circuit conditions without producing soot, sparks, or popping noises.
  • The high surge withstand capability prevents nuisance tripping of the fuse caused by transient surges.
  • The fuse’s 3.6mm x 9mm footprint conserves board space, which makes it suitable for use in compact wall-mount charger designs.
  • Its epoxy coating provides insulation on the vertically mounted fuse body.

Littelfuse SB6100 Industrial Shock-Block GFCI

The Industrial Shock-Block (ISB) from Littelfuse is a personnel protection device designed to meet the new requirements for special-purpose ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) defined by UL 943C.  ISB is the first and only permanently connected Class C and Class D GFCI on the market.  Class C GFCIs are introduced to be used on systems where the line-to-line voltage is 480V or less with a trip level of 20mA, while Class D GFCI is intended to be used on 600V systems.  These improvements to the standard Class A GFCI (6mA trip level used on 240V or less systems) were made to allow the use of GFCIs in industrial facilities.

ISB is also available with adjustable protection settings as an equipment ground-fault protective device (EGFPD).  The EGFPD models can be set to trip at 6, 10, 20 or 30mA.  This offers more flexibility, since GFCI devices are not allowed to have an adjustable trip level.

ISB (GFCI & EGFPD) is available for voltages from 208 to 600V, with a maximum full load current of 100A, and a built-in over current protection supplied by Littelfuse Class T fuses.  The load can be single-phase (line-to-line) or 3-phase, however, it cannot have a neutral.  The power system can either be solidly-grounded or high-resistance grounded.

Two options for enclosures are available: UL-recognized open-chassis models are available for installation in existing electrical enclosures and UL-listed enclosed models include a NEMA 4X enclosure for stand-alone installations.

The ISB also monitors the ground wire (load-ground) connection between the ISB and load.  This is a required feature for GFCI devices and is optional for EGFPD devices.  If the connection is broken, the ISB will provide an alarm by changing the state of the alarm contacts.  This monitoring circuit includes an extra wire (pilot wire) between the ISB and load (since the monitoring current is low, only a small wire is required).  At the load, the pilot wire is connected to a termination device.  The other end of the termination devices is connected to the load ground (typically the enclosure).

Littelfuse Up-LINK Remote Indicating Fuseholder

The Littelfuse Up-LINK® solid state, dead-front fuseholder provides remote fuse status indication without the need to incorporate proprietary network protocols. It features two separate indication modes:
  • Remote indication for immediate notification to maintenance personnel
  • Local LED indication simplifies locating the open fuse once the panel door is open

Advanced notification is beneficial in limiting expensive downtime, reducing production scrap or minimizing unsafe conditions to personnel. Up-LINK provides remote fuse status communication that can easily integrate with an existing PLC or system. If used in conjunction with a user-programmed PLC, additional information can be communicated such as fuse type, fuse part number, necessary Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and where replacement fuses are located. In this way, remote monitoring throughout the manufacturing environment improves uptime of critical loads via immediate detection and notification of problems.

Because there is no need to connect an external power supply or replace batteries throughout the life of the holder, the output signal is reliable and instills end-user confidence in its accuracy.

It has also been designed to the same footprint dimensions as Littelfuse’s Class CC and Midget fuse dead-front holders, making design upgrades easy in existing applications and layouts.

What does Up-LINK Offer?
  • Increased Productivity
  • Enhanced Reliability
  • Improved Safety

Product Features
  • Cost-effective solution for remote fuse status indication and local LED indication
  • Easy integration into existing PLC or system
