Turck NPN Outputs for C-Groove Magnetic Cylinder Position Sensors

TURCK announces that the company’s line of BIM-UNR magnetic cylinder position sensors—designed to mount within C-groove cylinders with no accessories required—has been expanded to include sensors with NPN outputs.

BIM-UNR sensors are also now enhanced with a combination mounting screw that grants users the flexibility of choosing a 3/16” (1.3 mm) Allen wrench or a flat-bladed screwdriver for sensor installation. Sensors can be securely mounted with a simple quarter-turn of the mounting screw, which is located in close proximity to the cable exit. This design ensures the sensors remain firmly fastened, even if a cable is pulled.

About BIM-UNR Sensors
With dimensions of only 2.9 x 4.6 x 18 mm, BIM-UNR is one of the most compact sensors on the market. For easy installation, this miniature sensor can be inserted into a C-groove from the top rather than from the side. The sensor’s active sensing element is placed at the bottom of the groove—as close to the magnet as feasible—to deliver reliable detection, particularly on short-stroke cylinders. In addition, BIM-UNR provides high immunity to EMC interference, in
accordance with EN 60947-5-2.

Pepperl+Fuchs ML100 Series Photoelectric Sensors

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces ML100 Series Photoelectric Sensors. These sensors literally shine over competitive sensor options in that they feature a more powerful and brighter light spot to enable longer sensing distances of up to 30 meters (98 ft.), with greater signal strength to reliably “see” through more contaminants that collect on the sensor lens. The new light spot also facilitates easier alignment, even to small objects or reflectors. The ML100 series is cULus listed.

“The new light spot is a significant differentiator for the ML100 series, not just in terms of it enabling longer sensing distances and greater signal strength, but also in its sharply defined boundaries and lack of a central black space that provides a consistent detection field with no ‘sensing voids,’” says Jeff Allison, Product Manager.

Enhanced status indication actively details for the user what the sensor is doing at any given moment. And because the status LEDs are highly visible from 360 degrees, users can quickly ascertain sensor status from further distances and various positions.

The ML100 series sensors provide an industry-standard mounting pattern, but are far more durable than a typical sensor with the same mounting style. “Where most competitive models have plastic threaded holes that are extremely susceptible to damage during mounting due to excessively applied torque, the ML100 series feature metal bushings for exceptional durability,” explains Allison.

The ML100 series boasts what is among the lowest current consumption in its class; many competitive models have a current consumption rating that is 25-50% higher than the ML100. Lower current consumption directly translates into energy savings, and also cuts costs because fewer power supplies can support a larger number of sensors.

The ML100 provides automatic crosstalk protection, meaning that two ML100 sensors can be used together without any mounting restrictions. They are also highly immune to ambient light, even in environments using high frequency energy-saving fluorescent lights. Additionally, a broader temperature rating (-30° C to 60° C; -22° F to 140° F) means the ML100 provides more reliable operation in both lower temperature and higher temperature environments, including cold storage areas, compared with competitive options.

ML100 series sensors are ideally suited for material handling applications such as detecting the presence of passing totes or cartons on conveyors, and as a start and stop trigger for conveyors. They are also well suited for use for long distance detection of engine blocks in the automotive industry, for example. Additionally, the ML100 is an ideal height monitoring solution in the packaging and solar energy markets, among others.

Phoenix Contact CLIP PROJECT Professional Marking Software

Phoenix Contact introduces CLIP PROJECT professional software for marking. This marking software allows the user to draw basic shapes and create custom templates.

The new drawing capability allows users to create shapes such as circles, squares/rectangles, lines and polylines. Place the objects into a custom template, or use them as needed on single labels. Objects can be resized and moved using “drag and drop,” or by typing in the desired height and width measurements and X and Y coordinates. Line thickness and type (dashed, solid, etc.) can also be determined.

The other new feature available in CLIP PROJECT professional is the ability to create custom templates. This can range from simply changing the font type, size or rotation for a particular material to inserting individual text fields in the background, which can later be filled before printing.

Pepperl+Fuchs Two Network AS-Interface Power Conditioner

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces the VAN-KE2-2PE Two Network AS-Interface Power Conditioner. The VAN-KE2-2PE is the industry’s first panel mount AS-Interface power conditioner to enable two AS-Interface networks to be operated from a single DC power supply. This power conditioner delivers up to 4 A output power per network connection, and is suitable for double master use without the need for data uncoupling.

“Mounting the previous design was often cumbersome, as the AS-Interface connections were located in the base of the G4 housing. This new power conditioner features a KE2 housing that is DIN rail mountable with easy-to-use and color-coded removable terminals for simplified mounting and operation,” says Helge Hornis, Ph D, Manager, Intelligent Systems Group.

Power conditioners are often used in factory or process automation applications where AC power is not available. In such applications, 30 VDC is run to the junction box and connected to the power conditioner, and with the new AS-Interface power conditioner VAN-KE2-2PE, up to two network segments can be connected there. The ability to make two AS-Interface connections is a powerful option for users because it enables them to power:

  • A dual network gateway,
  • Both segments before and after a repeater, or
  • Both segments after a set of two repeaters

The input voltage is flexible, and the LEDs on the power conditioner’s housing light up to provide voltage indication when voltage drops below 28 V and 26 V, respectively.
