Pepperl+Fuchs MNI40 Magnetic Incremental Rotary Encoders

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces MNI40 Incremental Rotary Encoders. The MNI40 is a robust magnetic, non-contact encoder with intelligent diagnostics suitable for a wide range of applications. The MNI40 delivers resolution up to 3,600 pulses per revolution at speeds up to 30,000 rev/min and operating temperatures from -40°C...+100 °C.

Robust, compact and simple installation of the MNI40 make it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications including machine construction, wind power, mobile equipment, material handling lifts and conveying technology. Primary features include:

  • Clear indication via LED display (2-color)
  • Easy installation and setup
  • Quality assurance through complete self-diagnosis
  • Long service life

“The LED indications are particularly useful during installation and setup because they provide information on proper assembly.” says David Rubinski, Product Manager. “The integration of the LED also reduces installation time and test equipment requirements, and offers greater potential for reducing overall costs of machine and/or system construction.” explains Rubinski.

The MNI40 utilizes a zero-contact (magnetic) connection between the encoder sensor and magnetic wheel, enabling the MNI40N encoder to measure speed without ball bearings. This eliminates bearing wear due to mechanical forces and ensures long operating life. The sensor includes sensing electronics, housed in a compact IP67 rated enclosure and an elastomer coated magnetic wheel – so contact with water and oil will not damage the encoder system.

Pepperl+Fuchs F1 Compact Inductive Sensor

The Pepperl+Fuchs compact F1 inductive sensor monitors the critical areas on a transport conveyor at a mechanical stopper. The sensor checks for the presence of tool carriers near the stopper and at the transfer unit to prevent any accidental collisions. This use of the F1 inductive sensor ensures smooth operation and minimizes conveyor downtime.

Pepperl+Fuchs SBL8 Photoelectric Sensor

Pepperl+Fuchs SBL8 photoelectric sensors prevent product damage caused by a congested conveyor.

In this application, a queue leads to a roller conveyor. In this queue, it is important that the containers are transported without pressure, which means that one container must not push on the one in front.

The SBL8-H roller conveyor control with backround suppression, located directly between the rollers of the conveyor, prevents piece goods from colliding. Direct control of valves as well as cascading of several sensors is possible.

These sensors are optionally equipped with a magnetic valve to control material flow directly. By linking the voltage supply, the electric signal and the compressed air, the installation outlay is minimal.

Electroplating with Pepperl+Fuchs WCS Position Encoding System

The WCS absolute linear encoder system from Pepperl+Fuchs provides fraction-of-a-millimeter position feedback to a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.

Overhead monorails, conveyors, cranes, automated storage and retrieval systems...even elevators and theater stage lighting systems can raise their performance to new levels with the WCS.

In this application, transport cars move along a line and take the product to be galvanized to the corresponding dip tank. Even under these adverse ambient conditions with aggressive vapors and high temperatures, the WCS position encoding system performs consistently and accurately.

Pepperl+Fuchs Videos Added to YouTube Channel

We have added the following video presentations from Pepperl+Fuchs to our Steven Engineering YouTube channel:

Pepperl+Fuchs Position Indicator with Dual-Sensor F31

Pepperl+Fuchs dual-sensors with either plug-in terminals (model F31) or clamp terminals (model F31K) are used as position indicators for vane drives. With these sensors, the active surfaces are positioned on top of each other. This allows the combination with different types of actuators depending on available shaft diameter and length. This highly flexible system matches the widely used shaft dimensions of 80x30 mm or 130x30 mm and is designed for easy mounting.

Pepperl+Fuchs F31 Dual-Sensors with Vane Drives

Many applications require the use of dual-sensors in combination with vane drives. In such situations, it is often necessary to precisely adjust the switching ranges for the on/ off positions. The Pepperl+Fuchs actuator BT65B is designed to allow such individual adjustments. It features two separate dampening surfaces made of stainless steel which can be fixed at any position independently from each other.

Pepperl+Fuchs F25 Compact Position Indicators

Ball valves are used in chemical plants for taking samples and to control and analyze ongoing processes. In order to verify the on/ off position of these valves, Pepperl+Fuchs compact type F25 dual-sensors are installed in combination with suitable actuators. These inductive proximity sensors come in a variety of electrical specifications (NAMUR, DC, AC) and are also available with EX specification.

Pepperl+Fuchs Incremental Rotary Encoder

The packaging industry has a wide variety of systems - an example is cleaning, filling, closing and labeling bottles. In this application, bottle filling machines require precise measurement of the distance a conveyor belt travels. In this way, it is possible to position each individual empty bottle precisely at the required filling position. In these applications, Pepperl+Fuchs incremental rotary encoders are used in order to determine the exact distance the conveyor belt has moved forward.

Pepperl+Fuchs Videos Added to YouTube Channel

We have added three new videos from Pepperl+Fuchs to our Steven Engineering YouTube channel:

VOS300 Series Vision Sensors

At the packaging process of PCBs for digital watches, various evaluation methods offered by the vision sensor series VOS300 are demonstrated. First, the completeness of the PCB outline is checked by the vision sensor method "contour". Incorrect parts will be eliminated. The complete filling of a blister package is then checked by the method "pattern". Finally, the presence of the structured QC label is checked with the method "gradient".

Rotary Encoders in Wind Energy Turbines
Wind energy turbines adjust to different wind conditions using an electronically controlled combination of rotor blade movement and variable rotor speeds. The sensing technology used in this wind engine turbine is adapts to different wind conditions. The rotary encoder controls the rotor speed.

Rotary Encoders on Fork Lifts

Rotary encoders are used to measure the fork height on material handling fork lift trucks. This application requires the safe removal or placing of goods at heights not visible to the driver. A shaft encoder provides the driver with height information indicated on a monitor in the fork lift truck.

New Products from Advantech Automation

Advantech EKI-2701PSI Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Splitter

Advantech introduces the EKI-2701PSI Industrial Power over Ethernet (PoE) splitter, which offers the convenience of a single cable to supply both power and data to connected devices and equipment.

PoE (also known as IEEE 802.3af) is a relatively new technology to industrial and plant-floor environments, but has proven itself in commercial and enterprise applications over the past several years.  Using the unused wires in a 10/100Base-T cable, or by overlaying power on the data connections, PoE supplies 15.4W of power at 48VDC.

This technology is extremely useful for powering network devices and equipment, where it is inconvenient, expensive, or infeasible to supply power separately.  Connected between a standard Ethernet device and a PoE powered connection, the EKI-2701PSI operates as a “splitter”, separating the PoE connection into a standard RJ45 Ethernet port and a removable screw terminal block capable of supplying nearly 13W at 24VDC.

Packaged in a thin DIN-rail mount chassis, the EKI-2701PSI is ideal where panel space is limited.  It supports both standard 10/100Base-T and gigabit 1000Base-T connections.  It is also ruggedized for demanding industrial applications, with 4,000 VDC Ethernet ESD protection, power line surge (EFT) protection of 3,000 VDC, power isolation, and output power short circuit protection.  For maximum uptime, in unattended and remote locations, it features an extended operating temperature range of -40 to 75° C.

Harry Forbes of Boston-based ARC Advisory Group notes “The IEEE 802.3af PoE standard was designed to fit VOIP telecom applications, and 48 VDC device power is a global standard in telecom.  This Advantech product is the first off-the-shelf solution I have seen for adapting PoE to standard industrial automation devices, which expect 24 VDC power. This will prove very useful in manufacturing automation applications.”

The EKI-2701PSI splitter is an ideal means to gain the benefits of PoE with standard Ethernet devices in harsh industrial environments.  For applications with two or more devices requiring a PoE power source, the EKI-2525P 5-port industrial Ethernet switch is a great match.

High Speed Quadrature Encoder and Counter Module

Advantech's ADAM-5081 is a high speed quadrature encoder and counter module for use with the ADAM-5550 series Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs). The ADAM-5081 has a high isolation of 2,500 VDC, a high speed frequency mode (5 Hz ~ 1 MHz), and a counter code at 1 MHz. There’s also an advanced digital filter to eliminate noise and interference (1 ~ 65000μ sec) which ensures accurate data collection and transmission.

The ADAM-5081 features four counter modes (up/down, bi-directional, up and A/B phase modes), which counts precise data units in minute detail. The frequency mode of the ADAM-5081 supports up to eight channels and can control a wider range of electromagnetic wave status under certain conditions.

The ADAM-5081 supports four digital output channels, which can be triggered by a preset counter value, and can watch the position encoder of the machine while doing the position comparing. Once the preset value is reached, the system requires a digital output signal to trigger the camera. With built-in DO channels already in the ADAM-5081, the respond speed is maximized.

For applications requiring high speed data collection with high accuracy, such as facility automation and machine automation, and theability to withstand harsh environments, the ADAM-5081 module is the optimum choice.

ADAM-6000 Modules Now with Peer-to-Peer and Graphical Conditional Logic Functionality

Advantech has announced a new firmware update for ADAM-6000 Series modules which adds advanced Peer-to-Peer and Graphic Condition Logic (GCL) functionality. These new features have already gone through extensive beta testing, and are proven to save time and money where all ADAM-6000 products are used. Users can upgrade thier ADAM-6000modules through Advantech's support website (here) alongwith an extensive new manual for ADAM-6000 Series products. If you already own these product, waste no time and upgrade now!

Two Exciting New Features:

1. Peer to Peer: With P2P functionality the ADAM-6000 modules can actively update input channel status to specific output channels. In the past, a controller was needed to read data from Ethernet input modules to Ethernet output modules (without Peer-to-Peer). Now that the data will transfer automatically, with no extra controller or programming needed.

2. Graphic Condition Logic: GCL is a windows-based software utility to add control logic between input and output without extensive programming. GCL can easily create equivalent instructions to simple ladder logic instructions on PLC's. It also supports flexible logic cascade function locally or over Ethernet network.
