Turck M12 X-Code Ethernet Connector

With the ability to transfer up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) of data, TURCK’s new M12 X-Code connector increases throughput and efficiency in high-end systems and applications. The M12 X-Code connector offers superior signal strength for high-speed Ethernet data transfers, compared to traditional M12 connectors that support up to 10/100 megabits per second (Mbps) Ethernet. Its ability to handle high bandwidth files and minimize transfer time reduces data bottlenecks and improves performance.

To achieve 10 Gbps Ethernet transmission speed, the M12 X-Code connector features advanced shielding design paired with Category 7 copper cable. Each of the four data pairs are shielded from each other within the connector, providing increased isolation against cross talk, or unwanted signal coupling from one balanced twisted pair to another.

“Newer applications for video, camera and vision systems, as well as high-speed data acquisition, demand a network cable that can handle more than 10/100 Mbps data transfer,” said Laura Schweitz, product manager at TURCK. “Gigabit Ethernet can provide the speed and capacity needed. Using the TURCK M12 X-code connector, our customers now have a dependable communication solution for these high-speed applications.”

Featuring a robust, compact design, the IP67-rated M12 X-Code connector reliably operates in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius. The overmolded construction eliminates time-consuming hand-wiring and misconfigurations, and is ideal for Industrial Ethernet applications requiring high speed and greater bandwidth.

Red Lion Controls Dual Ethernet Expansion Card

Red Lion announces the release of their Ethernet expansion card for the Data Station Plus and Modular Controller series. This new expansion card provides a second Ethernet port for communication on two distinct Ethernet networks simultaneously.

Both the Data Station and Modular Controller series support 10 simultaneous Ethernet protocols, as well as three serial protocols, providing unprecedented protocol conversion and device integration. The addition of a second Ethernet port allows communication with devices on two separate networks without the addition of an industrial router, saving cost as well as configuration time.

The ability to isolate machine level networks from the enterprise network benefits both process engineers and IT managers - the engineer can assign a fixed IP address for the port connected to his PLCs, drives, etc., while allowing the IT personnel to either pick their own IP address or to use DHCP to configure the enterprise port.

The XCENET card can be fitted to any Data Station Plus, as well as the LE, SX or GT versions of the Modular Controller series Master. All of these products are configured via Red Lion's free Crimson® software.

Red Lion Controls Ethernet Expansion Card for G3 HMIs

Red Lion announces the release of our Ethernet expansion card for the G3 series HMIs. This new expansion card allows the G3 series HMI to add a second Ethernet port for communication on two distinct Ethernet networks simultaneously – “a first for dedicated HMI platforms” say Jesse Benefiel, Product Manager at Red Lion Controls.

The G3 series of HMIs supports 10 simultaneous Ethernet protocols, providing unprecedented connectivity and integration. The addition of a second Ethernet port allows communication with devices on two separate networks without the addition of an industrial router saving cost as well as configuration time.

The G3ENET card can be fitted to any G3 series HMI with only a single Ethernet port, and is configured via Red Lion's free Crimson® software.

Harting Ethernet Switches Obtain DNV Ship Approval

HARTING Ethernet switches have now obtained the DNV ship approval. DNV stands for Det Norske Veritas and is an independent, worldwide leading authority of approvals and certifications in the maritime area. The type approval is granted according to special guidelines that have been developed for international shipping. In September 2009, the Ethernet Switches received the respective approvals:

eCon 2030-A
eCon 2040-A
eCon 2050-A
eCon 3080-A
eCon 3080-A1
eCon 3080-A4
sCon 3100-AA
mCon 3100-AAV
mCon 3082-ADV
mCon 3082-AEV

In connection with the type certificates according to DNV, the temperature, air humidity and vibration characteristics, as well as EMC properties were examined. The subsequent product approval applies to areas such as machine rooms, decks and bridges. In addition to the demands stipulated by DNV, the requirements of the standard for navigation and wireless communication equipment for maritime shipping (DIN EN 60945:2003-07) were also confirmed for the respective products.

Phoenix Contact Industrial Networks Guide - Ethernet Communication for Automation Applications

Industrial Ethernet is becoming the basic technology for future automation solutions. Although there are general differences, there are also many parallels with network technology in EDP applications.

The aim of this book is to demonstrate how industrial network technology and realtime-capable systems can be implemented in practice and to provide a vision of a seamless solution from the industrial environment to the office.

The book begins with an overview of Ethernet and its requirements in automation technology. It then provides comprehensive information about:
  • Installation: transmission media, CAT5/6/7 cabling, power supply, EMC
  • Switching: IPv4/IPv6, commands, redundancy, project planning, configuration
  • Protocols and Services: realtime, control, diagnostics, security, and communication protocols such as PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP
  • Services such as http, SNMP, DHCP
  • A comprehensive glossary
The focus is on practical applications and working with networks on a day to day basis. Clear examples are used to explain typical user questions and the basis for system decisions. This Industrial Ethernet book therefore covers all the knowledge and technology required for the planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of industrial Ethernet networks.
