Pepperl+Fuchs introduces ML100 Series Photoelectric Sensors. These sensors literally shine over competitive sensor options in that they feature a more powerful and brighter light spot to enable longer sensing distances of up to 30 meters (98 ft.), with greater signal strength to reliably “see” through more contaminants that collect on the sensor lens. The new light spot also facilitates easier alignment, even to small objects or reflectors. The ML100 series is cULus listed.
“The new light spot is a significant differentiator for the ML100 series, not just in terms of it enabling longer sensing distances and greater signal strength, but also in its sharply defined boundaries and lack of a central black space that provides a consistent detection field with no ‘sensing voids,’” says Jeff Allison, Product Manager.
Enhanced status indication actively details for the user what the sensor is doing at any given moment. And because the status LEDs are highly visible from 360 degrees, users can quickly ascertain sensor status from further distances and various positions.
The ML100 series sensors provide an industry-standard mounting pattern, but are far more durable than a typical sensor with the same mounting style. “Where most competitive models have plastic threaded holes that are extremely susceptible to damage during mounting due to excessively applied torque, the ML100 series feature metal bushings for exceptional durability,” explains Allison.
The ML100 series boasts what is among the lowest current consumption in its class; many competitive models have a current consumption rating that is 25-50% higher than the ML100. Lower current consumption directly translates into energy savings, and also cuts costs because fewer power supplies can support a larger number of sensors.
The ML100 provides automatic crosstalk protection, meaning that two ML100 sensors can be used together without any mounting restrictions. They are also highly immune to ambient light, even in environments using high frequency energy-saving fluorescent lights. Additionally, a broader temperature rating (-30° C to 60° C; -22° F to 140° F) means the ML100 provides more reliable operation in both lower temperature and higher temperature environments, including cold storage areas, compared with competitive options.
ML100 series sensors are ideally suited for material handling applications such as detecting the presence of passing totes or cartons on conveyors, and as a start and stop trigger for conveyors. They are also well suited for use for long distance detection of engine blocks in the automotive industry, for example. Additionally, the ML100 is an ideal height monitoring solution in the packaging and solar energy markets, among others.
