Phoenix Contact QUINT UPS-IQ High Function AC UPS

Early UPS solutions for industrial control cabinets were only basic units that performed a battery back-up function in the event of a main line power loss. These units could not indicate the condition of the connected battery. The new QUINT UPS-IQ from Phoenix Contact brings the market an intelligent product with extended visibility into the status of the batteries.

The QUINT UPS-IQ provides a robust, pure sine wave output in contrast to other UPS products that are only a modified step wave output. The pure sine wave ensures a high quality, clean output that can reliably power 120 V AC industrial components. This AC unit auto-detects the input voltage of either 120 V AC or 240 V AC, making this a product for global use.

To simplify system troubleshooting or startup, this AC UPS can start independent of an AC input. This allows users to power up an industrial PC or controller during a blackout to simplify system diagnostics. Basically, users can switch to battery mode anytime they want with no AC present.

The AC voltage QUINT UPS-IQ solution is a truly industrial UPS platform. It is UL 1778-recognized, which is specific for industrial AC UPS products. With this approval and its small size, the QUINT UPS is ideal for factory floor installations.

The QUINT UPS-IQ (AC) is also a truly scalable system with the batteries. By having external batteries, the solution can be built up using the size battery needed for the runtime required. This eliminates buying a large, self-contained unit just for the runtime. This solution uses the same batteries as the currently available QUINT UPS- IQ DC UPS product range. Using these new batteries allows for easy, “tool-less” battery replacement making maintenance easy.

This product will be utilized wherever and whenever battery backup is needed and in mission-critical systems that cannot lose power. IQ technology makes QUINT UPS-IQ unique by providing adaptive battery management on several levels:

  • State of Charge (SOC): Indicates the remaining backup time and level of charge on the battery. Customers will be able to see the amount of available time left at a quick glance.
  • State of Health (SOH): Indicates the remaining service life of the battery module(s). The history of the battery module(s) is recorded and an indication is provided of when the battery needs to be replaced before it becomes a concern.
  • State of Function (SOF): Indicates the capacity of the battery module(s). The available capacity of the battery is provided giving indication as to how well the battery is accepting the charge and if the full capacity is still available.
