Schneider Electric Preventa XPS Universal Safety Relay

Schneider Electric Preventa XPS Universal Safety Relay combines the simplicity of application of hardwired safety modules with a diversity of messages, which has required in the past more complex and expensive fieldbus technology:

  • With a simple point-to-point connection between the solid state output of the modules and a standard digital input of a PLC via a simple wire, Preventa XPS Universal modules can forward more than 40 different messages (amount of messages is depending on the type)

  • With above messages it is possible to reduce the down time of the machine, due to more accurate information on the root cause of a production stop

  • With a smart auxiliary output the modules moreover provide information about upcoming test cycles and the amount of remaining cycles before reaching end of life time.

This tremendous approach is basing on pulse coding and decoding with a function block, which has to be integrated in the controller´s program. For Preventa XPS Universal is a library available, providing function blocks compliant to all programming approaches of Schneider Electric programming systems and as well for all important programming systems of the market.

The big diversity of messages and the availablility of status information makes Preventa XPS Universal safety modules the first choice for a broad range of simple to mid-complex machines: Easy to use, since the integration is still basing on hardwired connections and no fieldbus is needed, which would increase the cost level. Nevertheless the Preventa XPS Universal modules provide a reply on the demand for more differentiated diagnostics information and approaches for predictable maintenance.

Each reference of the module family is adaptable to several safety functions. The selection of functionality can be done with a screw driver, or with fingers, turning rotary switches on the front part. From this selectibility of functionality is resulting a reduced number of types to cover a broad range of safety functions, simplifying the spare part logistics and the documentation of a machine.

The availability of a complete set of safety chain solutions – applications notes, including an application architecture and the documentation - speeds up the certification of safety functions.

FEATURES:
  • 22.5 & 45 mm width

  • 2 rows of terminals both on the top and bottom side (screw or spring removable terminals)

  • Transparent sealable lid in front face, to protect the selector switches from manipulation

  • Side connection for extension unit without need for external wiring except for XPSUAB & XPSUEP

  • IP40 housing, IP20 terminals

  • DIN-rail & direct wall mounting possibility

  • 24 Vac/dc + Wide Range Power-Supply from 48…240 Vac/dc (only 2 supply variants for full coverage now)

Schneider Electric Modicon TM3 Bus Coupler Module

Schneider Electric's specially developed Modicon TM3 I/O system enables flexible and customizable expansion of the I/O terminals in all of the controllers. Up to 14 terminals can be added to the controllers without tools. When the terminals are plugged in, their contacts are electrically linked to both the controller and the adjacent terminal. This high-speed expansion bus is 10 times faster than traditional solutions.

FEATURES
  • Digital I/O modules which can be used to create configurations with up to 264 digital I/O. These modules are available with the same connections as the controllers.

  • Analog I/O modules which can be used to create configurations with up to 114 analog I/O and are designed to receive, amongst other things, position, temperature or speed sensor signals. They are also capable of controlling variable speed drives or any device equipped with a current or voltage input.

  • Expert modules for the control of TeSys motor starters which simplify wiring up the control section due to connection with RJ45 cables.

  • Functional Safety modules which simplify wiring and can be configured in the EcoStruxure Machine Expert - Basic software.
In addition, the Modicon TM3 expansion system is flexible due to the possibility of remotely locating some of the Modicon TM3 modules in the enclosure or another cabinet (up to 5 meters away, using a bus expansion system. It is common to the whole range of Modicon M221, M241 and M251 logic controllers, meaning that the model of controller can be revised without changing expansion module.

Schmersal High-Density Inserts with Push-In Technology for HEAVYCON

Schmersal High-Density Inserts with Push-In Technology for HEAVYCON, PROTECT PSC1 safety controller is compact, has a modular structure and can be used extremely flexibly. The PSC1 makes it possible to project tailor-made safety-related solutions, whether for individual machines or highly complex installations. Furthermore, the PSC1 can make a contribution towards the realization of Industry 4.0 concepts.

The PROTECT PSC1 consists of freely programmable compact PLCs with IO extension modules for signal processing of mechanical and electronic safety switchgear. The compact controllers can be equipped with a universal communication interface. This enables the selection and implementation of different fieldbus protocols easily using software. The PSC1 therefore only requires one hardware element to create a connection to most common forms of fieldbus systems – which is a significant advantage, particularly considering aspects of cost.

The modular structure of the new Schmersal control system is of interest particularly with regard to Industry 4.0 concepts. The aim here, among other things, is to produce individualized products up to single units cost effectively. To achieve this, modularly assembled systems are often needed in which control functions are distributed on smaller, decentralized units that are networked together. Here, the PSC1 from Schmersal offers the means to configure individual protection systems on a software basis. Furthermore, safe communication between different PSC1 controllers is facilitated via Ethernet SDDC (Safe Device to Device Communication). This simplifies the setup of complex, multi-part installations with networked safety subsystems.

Another advantage of PSC1: Owing to the optionally integrated SD bus gateway, additional non-secure diagnostic signals from connected sensors can be transmitted via a standard bus system to an automation control system. This also allows signals to be evaluated that are relevant for preventing downtimes and increasing plant availability – and this in turn facilitates a rise in efficiency.

Phoenix Contact High-Density Inserts with Push-In Technology for HEAVYCON

Phoenix Contact's Push-in Technology (PT) has been an incredible advancement for wire terminations. This technology allows people to be significantly more productive and consistent with those terminations. While HEAVYCON has had Push-in terminations for some time, density has been a limiting factor. Crimp terminations are a time-honored method of achieving higher density within a connector, but now, that supremacy is being challenged.

As Phoenix Contact continues to advance its Push-in Technology, actuators are becoming smaller while still being robust enough for use in industrial applications. Given that, the HEAVYCON line now has several new contact inserts that take advantage of these advancements.

In the lineup of fixed inserts, the BB-series now comes in a PT alternative. A B06 housing can now carry 10 PT contacts, while a B24 can now have up to 46 PT contacts.

However, if you move from fixed inserts to the modular line, you can now find 6, 8, and 12 position inserts. That means in a B24 housing, you can accommodate up to 72 PT contacts. If you combine these with the existing five-position PT insert and five-position TPT (twin push-in termination), we have even more ways to mix and match inserts to conform to each application’s requirements.

The best part about all these new inserts…it’s extremely easy to make the conversion even in the middle of a project. All the BB-series inserts and the new modular inserts are fully intermateable and interchangeable with their crimp-contact counterparts. With compatibility like this, you can be confident in knowing that Phoenix Contact can help with all your getting-through-the-cabinet needs!

FEATURES
  • Easy, tool-free installation with Push-in connection

  • Space savings and high-packing density, thanks to the compact terminal chamber

  • Comprehensive range with the right Push-in insert for every size

  • Intermateable with other connection technologies, such as crimp connection and axial screw inserts

  • Compact modular interface, thanks to the combination of various transmission media in one housing

  • Protection against mismatching, thanks to coding with plastic profiles for BB inserts, or add-on guide pins and sockets for modular inserts
