Honeywell Sensing and Control ASDX Ultra-Low Pressure Sensors

Honeywell Sensing and Control has announced an upgrade to the ASDX Series that includes the following ultra-low pressure ranges:
  • 0 to 10 inches of H2O gage
  • ± 10 inches of H2O differential
  • ± 5 inches of H2O differential
As with the 1 and 5 psi low pressure sensors, the ASDX Series ultra-low pressure sensors incorporate ASIC technology for faster response, an SPI digital output option, and a 3.3 V power supply.

The ASDX Series is designed to provide digital correction of sensor offset, sensitivity, temperature coefficients, and non-linearity. These sensors are intended for use with non-corrosive, non-ionic working fluids such as air and dry gases.

The ASDX Series’ footprint is slightly larger than the SDX, but includes additional signal conditioning integrated within the product. This allows the customer to remove the components associated with signal conditioning from their PC board to free space and reduce costs normally associated with those components (e.g., acquisition, inventory, assembly). Having this capability within the sensor also eliminates many potential problems that could arise from having multiple components for signal conditioning spread across a circuit board.

The ASDX Series are available in analog or digital output:

Compensated analog output: Provides a ratiometric 12-bit analog output for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range, allowing for fast and easy integration into standard electronic circuits.

Compensated 14-bit digital output: Provides either an I2C or SPI digital interface for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range, minimizing connections and providing higher resolution and faster performance through reduced conversion requirements and the convenience of direct interface to the microprocessors or microcontrollers.

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS
  • Barometry
  • Flow calibrators
  • Gas flow instrumentation
  • Sleep apnea equipment
  • Pneumatic controls
  • Ventilation/air flow monitors

Honeywell Sensing and Control SS340RT and SS440R Digital Position Sensors

Honeywell has expanded its Hall-effect sensor portfolio with the new SS340RT Series and SS440R Series Unipolar Hall-Effect Digital Position Sensors. As unipolar devices, they are designed to respond to a single pole. These devices enhance our existing unipolar Hall-effect sensor portfolio by offering the following:
  1. Subminiature SOT-23 surface mount package
  2. Reverse polarity protection
  3. Low 3 V capability
  4. Price competitive

SS340RT Series: Subminiature SOT-23 surface mount package takes up less space on the printed circuit board; supplied on tape and reel for automated pick and place assembly, often helping to reduce manufacturing costs; responds to North pole.

SS440R Series: Leaded flat TO-92 style package (bulk packaging, 1000 units per bag). Future options will include ammopack (fan-fold) type tape, with straight or formed leads for automated assembly; responds to South pole.

These sensors are:

Price competitive: Honeywell has optimized the size of the integrated circuit, saving on manufacturing costs while still meeting customer requirements; these savings result in lower costs to customers

Economical: Package is supplied on tape and reel (SS340RT Series), often allowing for automated, lower-cost pick and place assembly which helps the customer reduce manufacturing costs; low voltage 3 V capability helps reduce power consumption

Small: Small footprint takes up less space on the PC board, typically allowing for more components on the same board

Flexible: Sinking output with open collector allows the sensor to interface with many electrical circuits without buffering; 3 to 24 Vdc supply voltages up to 125°C [257°F] and 3 to 12 Vdc voltage operating at 150 °C [257 °F] enhance application flexibility

Stable: Thermally balanced integrated circuit provides stable operation over a full temperature range

Safe: Built-in reverse polarity protection provides enhanced circuit protection

The new Hall-effect sensors are supplied in three different magnetic sensitivities:
  • Highest sensitivity: SS341RT and SS441R devices offer the highest sensitivity of the Series, with a typical operating point of 85 G at 25 °C [77 °F]
  • Medium sensitivity: SS343RT and SS443R offer medium sensitivity with 125 G typical at 25 °C [77 °F]
  • Lowest sensitivity: SS349RT and SS449R offer the lowest sensitivity, requiring 350 G typical to operate at 25°C [77 °F]

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS
  • Door or lid closure detection
  • Speed and RPM (revolutions per minute) sensing in fitness equipment
  • Flow rate sensing in industrial processes, appliances, or water softeners
  • Damper or valve position control in industrial, HVAC, or residential/commercial applications
  • Robotic control (cylinder position monitoring)
  • Float-based fluid level sensing
  • Printer head position sensing
  • Displacement sensor in hospital beds or medical equipment
  • Medication bin monitor on portable drug carts

All Crydom CMX series SSRs feature outputs with low on-state resistance FETs for efficient DC load control, 2500 VAC optical isolation, logic compatible DC control input and industry standard PCB mounting footprint in an epoxy package designed for full output rated operation at 40°C ambient temperature.

Crydom DC output SSRs are ideal for heating, lighting and motion control applications in industrial, medical, aerospace, rail and automotive applications.

Turck Gearless Compact Absolute Encoders

TURCK introduces an optical encoder series designed completely without gears to eliminate wear and sensitivity to magnetic fields. The Kubler by TURCK F36 encoder series’ compact size of only 36 mm with a hollow shaft diameter of up to 10 mm makes them well-suited for drive engineering and medical applications.

F36 singleturn encoders have a resolution of up to 17 bits; multiturn encoders have a resolution of up to 41 bits with over 16 million revolutions. An IP 67 protection rating and a temperature range of -40 to 90°C makes the encoders able to withstand harsh environmental conditions.

Kubler by TURCK encoders employ state-of-the-art OptoASIC technology with high integration density that results in fewer components and connection points to increase operational reliability. Further, a patented Safety Lock™ bearing structure provides increased ability to withstand vibrations and eliminates installation errors.
