New Products from Pepperl+Fuchs

Mobile Equipment Sensors
Pepperl+Fuchs introduces Mobile Equipment sensors . These IP69K-rated inductive proximity sensors are shocktest rated to 50 G for reliable operation in high shock and vibration environments, can operate in extreme cold (-40 °C/ -40 °F) and heat (+85 °C/ +185 °F), and feature 10x greater radiated field immunity (immunity to mobile radio interference) than standard sensors to satisfy the demanding performance criteria set forth in IEC and SAE mobile equipment standards. They are fully compatible with Deutsch, Weatherpack (Packard) and Amp/Tyco connectors.

Mobile Equipment sensors are available in 12, 18 and 30 mm diameters to deliver 4, 8 and 15 mm sensing ranges, respectively. The extended sensing range of up to 15 mm facilitates increased target-to-sensor separation, which significantly reduces accidental impacts to maximize uptime. Load dump circuitry protects the sensor against power spikes during machine start-up, which is particularly significant when the sensor is powered directly from a battery. Additionally, they feature heavy-gauge, cut-proof PUR cables that are unaffected by oil, grease and other fluids common to such applications.

Mobile Equipment sensors are specifically engineered to overcome the environmental challenges common to truck, bus, crane, lawn mowing, forklift and other mobile equipment applications. Their ability to reliably operate in extreme temperatures also makes them well-suited for use in nearly any outdoor environment, or in freezers where standard sensors with a typical -25 °C rating are unsuitable for use.

New Products from Tyco Electronics

New Additions to the HTS Connector Family

For over 50 years, the HTS connector family has met the most rigorous environmental and technical requirements. Traditionally used in industrial and railway applications due to their excellent electrical and mechanical features, these robust products have migrated to other demanding applications such as traffic management, white goods, wind energy, solar and lighting.

This heavy duty connector system is a highly modular system of inserts and shells that allow designers to configure an interconnection to meet specific application needs. The wide range of selections allows EMI shielding, various levels of sealing, different latching mechanisms and cable entries — in essence, the ability to construct a connector custom-tailored to the application.

Recently Tyco Electronics has significantly expanded the HTS connector product portfolio with several new product families.

High Variable System is Very Flexible
One of the key new products is the HVS modular system. This high variable system offers a choice of more than 25 different connector modules that can be quickly and easily mounted to or dismounted from a metal frame without tooling. Up to six single modules or three double modules can be used within a single shell.

Interface modules include high-voltage contacts (up to 3000 V nominal), high-current contacts (up to 250 A) and high-density signal contacts (up to 25 contacts in a single module). Coaxial contacts, RJ-45 modular plugs, USB and IEEE1394 (FireWire) contacts are offered within the HVS system. Other available modules support Quadrax contacts for operation to 1 GHz, subminiature-D interfaces and also pneumatic connections.

The populated HVS connector systems can be used in a broad range of heavy duty connector enclosures.

Plastic Connectors Expand Range
The availability of plastic HTS connectors is another recent development. Traditionally, only metal housings were available in this family. A growing range of HG-Q series plastic connectors has been developed for industrial machinery, motor drives and other industrial applications. These highly reliable and cost-effective connectors are offered in standard and EMV shielded versions.

HG-Q.4/2, HG-Q.8 and HG-Q.10 series connectors are designed for operation from -40ºC to +125ºC. They conform with Desina and ISO 23570-3.4 standards and meet IP65 protection class specifications in their locked positions. A variety of accessories are available for use with these robust connectors.

HG-Q.10 motor connector housings are specifically designed for direct mounting on motors. HG-Q.4/2 and HG-Q.8 connectors are available with straight and right-angled hoods and cable-to-cable coupler housings.

Combination Inserts
Another recent addition is the HMX hybrid insert. These inserts combine power and signal interface within one insert. Space-saving HMX inserts require 30 percent less space than traditional inserts. They permit reductions in cost and component count, as they require no frames. HMX inserts are designed for use with the broad array of HTS hoods and housings and find application in many instances where both signal and power connections are required.

Fully Shrouded Headers Help Eliminate Mismating

New fully shrouded post headers, available in 2 through 12 positions, have been added to the popular Economy Power (EP) connector family. Intended for secondary power circuit applications, the through-hole headers have a current-carrying capacity of 7.5 A maximum per contact. To lessen the chance of mismating, the full four-sided shroud aids proper alignment during engagement of the plug connector. The new headers are compatible with existing EP connectors.

Contacts are on a 0.156-inch [3.96-mm] pitch. The header includes a positive-lock feature. During mating, the positive locking lever on the outside of the plug housing engages the mating header housing to provide greater retention. Housings are 94V-0-rated nylon; contacts are tin-plated brass. The connectors are UL Component Recognized, CSA Certified, and RoHS compliant.

Phoenix Contact 900MHz Trusted Wireless Ethernet Radio

Phoenix Contact's new RAD-ISM-900-EN-BD is an industrial radio transceiver that brings Ethernet or serial data onto IP-based networks from remote locations, even in high-interference environments.

The RAD-ISM-900-EN-BD uses the MOTR-9T radio platform, a 1-watt, frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) transceiver. It operates in the license-free 902-928 MHz ISM band. With the MOTR-9 radio, the user can configure over-the-air data rates up to 500 kbps. Adjustable packet sizes maximize data speed and minimize latency. The radio also incorporates selectable 128/192/256-bit AES encryption to prevent unwanted intrusion and to keep data secure.

Multiple wireless communication streams allow simultaneous Ethernet, I/O control, and serial ASCII device communications - all from a single radio without external gateways or additional serial wireless converters.

With the radio's simple, IT-friendly embedded software, any network PC with a web browser can configure the devices. The RAD-ISM-900-EN-BD is approved for use in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations.
