The SLE5 from Banner Engineering is a rugged, industrial label detection sensor. Its high performance, fast switching frequency and compact housing are ideal for labelling machines. The SLE5 can detect single layer as well as multi-layer booklet labels, such as coupons or instructions commonly used in food, beverage and pharmaceutical applications. Single button teach easily establishes the threshold between the backing paper and label, ensuring that product waste is minimized during set-up.
Key Benefits
High Performance - The small infrared light spot of the SLE5 can quickly detect the gap between opaque labels on clear or opaque backing. The 5mm slot width and 50mm slot depth allow precise detection of a wide variety of products, including multi-layer booklet labels. The SLE5 can detect as small as a 0.5mm minimum label or gap width. 40µs response speed (12.5 kHz switching frequency) for increased position accuracy assures precise detection and placement on fast moving production lines.
Easy to Use - The SLE5 can be taught via single teach button or remote teach wire and can be configured to detect the label or the backing paper based on teach order. Teach mode can be performed either statically or dynamically at speeds up to 20 meters per minute. Highly visible green and amber status LEDs confirm teach was accepted and current output status.
Simple Installation - The SLE5’s compact housing features make it easy to install in the dispensing ledge. The dovetail mounting option is designed for simple installation directly on machines, no tools required. Standard M5 mounting holes are also available for maximum versatility. Models are available with 2m cables or integral M8 connector and with NPN or PNP output.
Applications
- Processing and packaging machinery
- Automatic labelers

Carlo Gavazzi has launched the MC36C Series Compact Safety Magnetic Sensors, designed for safety-related applications, such as the monitoring of swinging, sliding or removable safety guards, which keep personnel safe from dangerous areas. The MC36C Series of magnetically-coded REED safety magnetic sensors are the ideal solution to monitor the position of sliding, hinged and removable safety guards, especially in dirty and dusty environments. Thanks to their wide actuation range, the MC36C magnetic sensors are ideally suited for use in applications where great tolerances are required, such as with safety gates or doors which are imprecisely aligned.
The MC36C Series are extremely versatile and can work as standalone or in conjunction with a safety module to reach a safety category 4, according to the EN ISO 13849-1 Standard. These are some of the features which make these sensors extremely flexible to meet various application requirements: compact size (36x26x13mm), output configuration (2 NO or 1 NO and 1 NC), availability with 2m cable or M8 quick disconnect (left or right exit).
Other important features include:
- Assured switching range: 5mm w/MC36CM
- Assured switch-off range: 15mm w/MC36CM
- Operating temp.: -25 to +80°C (-13 to 176°F)
- Rated operating voltage: 12-24 VAC/VDC
- Rated operating current: 0.25 A (resistive)
- Maximum switching load: 6W (resistive)
- Maximum operating frequency: 100 Hz
- Optional LED indication
- Degree of protection: IP67
- CE and cULus approved
The MC36C safety magnetic sensors are the best choice for non-contact detection and are suitable to monitor safety gates that prevent the entry of personnel in the vicinity of dangerous machines in motion, such as conveyors, robots, mechanical links, etc.

Banner is expanding its offering of the WLS27 Series Strip Light to include programmable models with RGBW LEDs for use in indication, illumination and inspection applications. These new models are programmable with either Banner’s Pro Editor software or IO-Link communication. With quality white light, sealed, chemical resistant housing, and a wide variety of colors and animation possibilities, the WLS27 Pro Series LED Strip Light can be used in numerous applications across many industries.
Easy Configuration with Either IO-Link or the Pro Editor Software
The new WLS27 Pro comes in either IO-Link or discretely-controlled Pro Editor compatible models. Banner’s Pro Editor software allows users to program device status, colors and animations for control via three discrete inputs.
Benefits of Pro Editor include:
- Color and animation options allow for more intuitive indication in the visual factory
- Gain control of your supply chain and delivery through model standardization
- Display advanced functions like distance, time and count without a controller
The IO-Link models allow for dynamic control—reacting to inputs from other devices—and have additional modes beyond what is available with the discrete models. IO-Link enables users to change device parameters from the control system as needed, such as during product changeover, which reduces downtime and allows machines to accommodate greater product diversity.
Benefits of IO-Link include:
- Individual control of LEDs for fully customized operation
- Use available ports to provide illumination and dimming without added hardware
- Dynamic illumination and indication based on changing statuses
Calibrated Color and Advanced Animations for Challenging Applications
The bright, high-quality light output of the WLS27 Pro makes it an ideal solution for illumination. Its RGBW LEDs give clean, flicker-free white light versus competitive models that create a mixed white from only RGB LEDs. The WLS27 Pro features a total of nineteen different shades - thirteen colors plus six whites. This work light can be programmed to bright white light for safety or efficiency during normal operation, and then change color to indicate other machine statuses, such as red for a stop condition. Additionally, advanced statuses allow the WLS27 Pro to indicate alarm states, show temperature, display position information, count for process verification, and display takt time.
Reliable Performance in Harsh Environments
The rugged IP69K design provides reliable indication in a wide variety of conditions, including harsh washdown, machining and outdoor environments. The sealed lights are constructed with sturdy aluminum frames in a shatterproof copolyester housing, making them resistant to wet environments, impact, and breakage.
Illumination + Indication with EZ-STATUS®
The WLS27 Pro offers illumination and multiple indication capabilities in a single device with EZ-STATUS® to simplify installation and improve ergonomics. EZ-STATUS® promotes faster response to status changes and reduces the risk of costly mistakes and accidents. Use its bright white light for illumination or colors for broad status information or maintain white illumination in the center of the light and convey status through colored ends.

With the release of firmware 2.05.1, Phoenix Contact has extended the scope of functions of its TC Router product range. The firmware is available to download at www.phoenixcontact.com.
The TC Router permits remote access to SCADA networks and control systems over the cellular network. Since these networks typically involve critical infrastructure, the TC Router VPN and firewall have been updated to increase network resiliency and protect against cyberattacks.
Firmware 2.05.1 extends the cybersecurity features to all interfaces communicating between the LAN and Internet. The upgrade includes firewall rules that can prevent unauthorized users from
logging into the device over the Internet (external access), or prevent specific devices from communicating to the TC Router through the XML interface. Access to the web interface can now also be secured with user-defined certificates for the HTTPS protocol to increase security and have browsers recognize the connection as being trustworthy.
Lastly, Denial of Service (DoS) protection ensures that, in the event of an attack (ICMP flood/TCP SYN flood), the router does not use unnecessary resources and remains in a valid operating state.
