The SMS relay enclosure is an all-in-one solution for reliable, compact remote control and signaling. The enclosure is shipped with surge protection for the entire cabinet, power distribution terminal block, SMS cellular relay, and pre-wired terminal blocks for all the inputs and outputs. To simplify ordering, the entire package is available with just one part number.
The user can monitor and control six configurable analog/digital inputs and four relay outputs with NO/NC contacts using SMS messages via any GSM mobile phone network. Each change of status at the input sends a user-defined message to the selected maintenance personnel via text message. A predefined message can be used to enable and disable the outputs via text message. This makes it easy to acknowledge and even remove errors remotely.
Fields of application:
- Pumps, water supply, waste water
- Alarming
- Machine, building and system monitoring
- Intrusion detection
- Remote switchgears
Phoenix Contact now offers the
only line of pluggable terminal blocks
with ATEX, Ex certification.
If systems are installed in potentially explosive areas, a great number of
safety precautions must be taken. The requirements of Part 7 IEC 60079 for
increased air and creepage distances, heating behavior, aging resistance and insulation capacity of the materials have been certified.

The extended wait for new additions to the Phoenix Contact Lean Managed Switch line is over. These additions more than triple the size of the LMS product group. The new models include various five-port models, the inclusion of ST fiber products, as well as the expansion of the single-mode fiber offering. All of the available switches in the LMS line have a corresponding –E version with IGMP snooping/query default enabled, for quick and easy deployment in EtherNet/IP installations.
Since launch, the Lean Managed Switch’s functionality has consistently increased. The LMS supports Rapid Spanning Tree and the proprietary Fast Ring Detection for redundancy. Large Tree Support enables the use of the Lean Managed Switch in network applications with extensive switch usage. The LMS also supports SNMP for switch configuration and diagnostics, port mirroring and port statistics to assist in network troubleshooting, and VLAN for secure network segmentation. With the recently-made-available firmware 3.40, the Lean Managed Switch has even more supported functions:
- DHCP Server - Automate the assignment of device IP addresses
- Advanced multicast settings - Optimize a redundant network with multiple controllers in use
- Extended multicast source detection settings
- Static and auto query port selection capability
- External storage of switch configuration - Makes device replacement or copying of common configurations easy
Banner Engineering has added ultraviolet (UV) light options to their vision sensor light families. Banner's ultraviolet lights were developed to be safely used in machine vision applications where UV-sensitive materials fluoresce when exposed to UV light. UV models have been added to all established vision light families.
Examples of applications include fluorescing labels, packaging material, glues, dyes and printing in UV inks such as registration marks and barcodes.

The OsiSense™ XXV18 ultrasonic sensor from Schneider Electric
provides similar proximity sensing capabilities as most inductive
sensors, but delivers greater sensing capabilities with respect to target
color, shape or composition. These sensors are self-contained, pulse
echo, ultrasonic sensing devices that both transmit and receive sonic
energy in an 18 mm cylindrical housing.
Ideal for packaging, material handling and metal working assembly
machine applications, these sensors are unaffected by changing light
conditions, colors or environmental noise. The OsiSense™ XXV18
ultrasonic sensor is designed to perform reliably in harsh industrial
environments where other sensing technologies are challenged
(e.g., changing light conditions, dust, dirt, powder, humidity, etc.).
The OsiSense™ XXV18 sensors have a sensing range from 2.0 mm
(0.08 in.) to 50.0 mm (1.97 in) which is a 25 percent to 200 percent
increased sensing range compared to traditional inductive sensors.
Offering great value at low costs, this OsiSense™ ultrasonic sensor
provides a versatile and powerful ultrasonic sensing solution as an
alternative to using inductive sensors in proximity sensing applications.

Pepperl+Fuchs X-Series Pile Driver™ Extended Range Inductive Sensors are now available in 8mm diameter models. With barrel lengths as short as 35mm, these miniature sensors deliver a 3mm sensing range – 50 percent more range than is available from larger competitive 12mm diameter models. As a result, 8mm diameter extended range Pile Driver sensors eliminate the need to sacrifice sensing range or durability. Like all Pile Driver sensors, its robust, single-piece machined barrel is fully embeddable in steel making it an ideal sensing solution for the toughest metalforming and welding applications.
100% stainless steel housings deliver durability more than 20 times that of the competition’s brass and plastic housings, and Black Armor™ coated weld-immune models are available to repel even the hottest slag particles. Pig-tail connect versions feature integral high visibility power supply and target presence LEDs. X-Series Pile Driver extended range sensors are also available in 12mm, 18mm and 30mm diameters to deliver sensing ranges of 5mm, 10mm or 15mm – up to 2.5 times longer range than traditional inductive sensors.
“An inductive proximity sensor's detection range is a function of its size. Larger styles inherently offer longer sensing ranges than smaller, less powerful models. When selecting a proximity sensor, smaller versions aren't typically chosen due to their limited sensing range,” says Marcel Ulrich, Product Manager, Pepperl+Fuchs. “Instead, restricted mounting space often forces machine designers to reluctantly accommodate the limited distance. The drawback to short sensing distances is clear; a closely mounted, loose-tolerance target is more likely to impact and damage the sensor, causing downtime. Additionally, loose or irregularly-shaped targets can also generate erroneous part counts as they enter and exit the sensing field.”
X-Series Pile Driver’s extended sensing field is a big benefit in automotive manufacturing applications, as it enables reliable detection of irregularly shaped contours, and increased sensor-to-target distances help eliminate contact-related scuffing of “Class A” hood, door and trunk surfaces. Weld-immune models are uniquely capable of providing long range part detection with full immunity to both AC and DC weld fields, and repelling weld splatter.
“X-Series Pile Driver’s have an up-front cost that is only 35-40% higher than a traditional plastic-faced sensor. So if a sensing application averages even one contact-related failure per year, the X-Series Pile Driver will more than pay for itself in reduced sensor replacement costs and inventory, and increased machine uptime and throughput,” says Ulrich.
X-Series Pile Driver’s can detect all metals. Advanced circuitry enables restriction-free mounting while delivering the highest available immunity to the effects of industrial noise and temperature extremes. Unlike traditional inductive sensors that are limited to IP67/68 protection, X-Series Pile Driver sensors are IP69k-rated to withstand high pressure washdown cleaning.
